Fun times in Adelaide

7 10 2009

For those that you don’t know I know look after SA as well as WA for Readify. The plan is to grow SA like we have done for WA.

Anyway, I find myself in Adelaide for a couple of days meeting new Readify Consultants, existing and future clients, and of course MSFT and had a funny incident today which I thought I would share.

I was just in between meetings and need a relieve myself ( as you do when you are on the road all day in meetings which take place over a coffee or two), so I stopped near a park with one of those exceloo’s.

When I got out of the car I put my laptop in the boot, but was careful to ensure no one saw me do it just in case someone was going to attempt to be opportunistic and relieve me of it.
I walked to the toilet and noticed some dodgy peeps hanging out in the park sitting between the car and toilet so was a bit careful again to make sure they didn’t start to head towards the car while I took care of business.

I then did what I needed to do in the exceloo.

When walking back to the car I was thinking about something else and as I approached the blue falcon I noticed that someone had stolen to rear wing off the boot. Just ripped it off. Needless to say my heart went through the top of my head given it was a hire car. I turned around to start to walk back to the dudes sitting in the park to have a chat with them to see if they saw anything or if it was them.

It was then I realised I had walked past my car to another one 2 cars down and all was fine. Happy Days.

Looking for people in Perth

24 08 2009

As Readify continues to expand in the WA market we need more fantastic people in the .Net space. You .Net skills may have got you to where you are today, but you may also now be an expert in MOSS, SQL/BI, Biztalk, TFS/ALM or other associated web technologies like Silverlight. If you think you are a @paulstovell in the making around WPF then we want to hear from you.

Shoot me an email – call me – or you can now tweet me as well. :)

We want to hear from you. It could be the best career move you ever make.

Cheers Andy

PS We are also now looking to build the Adelaide presence for Readify. If you know of anyone who is looking or you are looking yourself then let me or one of the other Readify peeps know and we can have a chat.

SharePoint RDN free training event

8 10 2008

clip_image001

Can you believe it has been almost 2 months since our last RDN. How time flies when you are having fun.

With Jeremy Thake starting over the last 6 weeks as a Senior Consultant based in Perth we thought it was timely to hold a RDN with a SharePoint flavour. We also ran our first MOSS 2007 course locally over the past couple of weeks and it looks like we will be running another one sometime over the next month due to increasing demand.

In the mean time, this is a great FREE way to get some exposure to some quality Readify presentations around SharePoint. It’s also a great opportunity for all you .Net Dev people to get a bit of an understanding into what everyone is talking about around SharePoint.

The RDN is in our usual location, but we have had to change the day in order to get a room. It is now on Wednesday evening not Thursday. We have also taken the feedback onboard about the arrival time of the Pizza’s. These will turn after the presentations so that we can get started as close to 5.30pm as possible.

So come along, meet your peers, learn something new, and have some pizza all for FREE.

As always, if you think someone else may find this of value please feel free to forward it onto them.

Kind regards, Andy

Free technical education events from the nation’s technical readiness specialists.

The Readify Developer Network (RDN) is the easiest way for you to get a head start in new and upcoming Microsoft technologies.  RDN events comprise of ReadiPrimer and ReadiDepth sessions, which are presented by Readify’s highly qualified and respected Senior Consultants and Developers and are developed through a combination of early access to Microsoft technology and high level experience.

Due to RDN’s overwhelming demand in Perth,  we are pleased to announce that our next RDN Perth event will be taking place in late October.  We have a fantastic topic and two expert presenters lined up this month – see below for event details.

Come along and meet some of the Readify team and enjoy robust technical discussion, refreshments and great networking opportunities…all for FREE!

Like to find out more about RDN.

October RDN | Perth

Wednesday 29 October 2008, 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Cliftons, Australia Place, Corner St George’s Terrace & William Street, Perth

ReadiPrimer Topic:

ReadiPrimer sessions offer a snapshot view on specific developer technologies delivered.  Each ReadiPrimer session runs for approximately 30 minutes.

“Getting Started with MS SharePoint”

Presented By Hadley Willan, Senior Developer, Readify

MS SharePoint is a large application framework providing many out-of-the-box benefits and is geared toward customisation.  If you’ve been daunted by how to get in to SharePoint and what benefits SharePoint can provide, then this ReadiPrimer is for you.

Hadley Willan will introduce the SharePoint technology. This will cover summaries about Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), v3.0 vs. v2.0, what SharePoint can provide, how to identify when to apply SharePoint and getting started in SharePoint 3.0 technologies.

ReadiDepth Topic:

ReadiDepth sessions are in-depth presentations for a specific technology.  Each session is presented by a Readify Senior Consultant or Developer who is an expert in their field.  ReadiDepth sessions bring you the most advanced and up-to-the-minute technology previews and technical sessions available in the country.

“SharePoint Development Best Practices”

Presented by Jeremy Thake, Senior Consultant, Readify

SharePoint is an extremely powerful Platform that Developers can leverage to kick start their projects. With all technologies there is the right way, the wrong way and the grey area in the middle. A lot of the Best Practice areas learnt in ASP.NET can be applied to SharePoint such as: environment configuration; source control; automated build scripts; team development; code manageability; code analysis; and more.

SharePoint also has multiple approaches to achieving the same end functionality and some may seem easy on the surface but are hard to enforce standards and repeatability. Key concepts discussed will include: InfoPath vs. ASP.NET Forms; Site Features vs. Site Templates; SharePoint Designer Workflows vs. Visual Studio Workflows; and more.

Jeremy will present some lessons learnt from real world scenarios and also some key Best Practices to adhere to in your Development Teams.
