The Eagle has landed

28 04 2008

Just a quick post to let everyone know that I have landed in Perth and have started working full time on building the Readify WA business.

If you have any queries or questions please shoot them through. I look forward to meeting everyone involved in the Perth .Net user community and working closely with Microsoft over the coming weeks and months.

The next two weeks will be a bit all over the place whilst we get settled and move into our new rental residence, but after that things will get rocking…….

Speak soon……

The joys of finding a rental property….

15 04 2008

After being a home owner for the past 10 years I had forgotten about the joys associated with finding rental property.

First of all, you are basically treated like second class citizens by the real estate agents, and secondly we are currently in one of the worst times in Australia’s history for a shortage of quality rental property.

With this in mind, i was not looking forward to entering this market again, or being on the other end as a landlord and not wanting to my prospective tenants to go through what is generally accepted as normally service.

I am pleased to say that we managed to find both a fantastic agent in Perth whom we have rented a property through and had another equally fantastic experience in Melbourne when leasing out our property.

On both of these occasions, we were made to feel respected, were constantly kept in the loop with what was happening, and had direct access to the people actually doing the work for us. What a difference this made for the experience. I would have no hesitation in recommending their work to anyone, if interested let me know.

Both our Melbourne property and the Perth one were all secured late last week. What an end to the week it was. But with this now done it’s time for the packers to move in early next week before the actual move. Oh and in line with my previous post on supporting a virtual company – I am writing this from a cafe in Hampton St, Hampton watching the rain clouds roll in from the bay…..Beautiful…..

The true value of working in a virtual company…..

10 04 2008

One of the benefits of working for Readify is the fact that the company is built on a virtual company ethos…

Whilst looking after IT, I spent most of my time working from home and the occasional cafe when needed. We could also use the Readify Melbourne apartment when the need arose, for doing more hands on technical work with the IT systems.

When moving to a new state or location most companies feel the need to find an physical office to base themselves. The strength of the commitment by Readify to enable all staff to work from any location is now more evident than ever, as I am moving back to Perth to setup a Western Australia presence.

I basically close down my laptop and turn off my phone in Melbourne, jump on a plane to WA, and then turn on my laptop and phone when in Perth and I am up and working, from anywhere. Rather than hunting for physical office space and getting utilities and services connected, I am immediately productive from Day 1.

It’s a shame that more companies do not embrace the technology that is available to us all. This can enable a more flexible working environment and lead to greater productivity. Of course not all businesses are suitable to this way of working, but I would have at a guess that there are a great number which will.

So for Readify, it is one of our strengths that we continue to build upon, and gives us an advantage over other companies in the marketplace.

If you would like to know more about how and why we do it then shoot me an email, hook me up on IM, or give me a call. You never know where I might be……
